The 64th session of the UN General Assembly declared 29 August as the International Day against Nuclear Tests through the unanimous adoption of its resolution 64/35 on 2 December 2009.

The day will be observed at UN Headquarters on 30 August 2017, with an Informal Meeting of the UN General Assembly convened by President of the UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson, and a message from the UN Secretary-General, followed by a plenary debate.
