At its 15th meeting in December 2022, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) established an ad hoc open-ended working group on benefit-sharing from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources, to undertake further development of the multilateral mechanism and make recommendations to the COP at its 16th meeting. 

The first meeting of the Working Group will take place in November 2023. The CBD COP convenes every two years, with its next meeting expected in 2024.
