This high-level event, titled “Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (2016-2025): From political commitments to actions on the ground,” will take place on 21 September, during the general debate of the UN General Assembly's 72nd Session. The event is co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); the African Union (AU); the African Development Bank (AfDB); the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA); and the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA).

The event seeks to: Discuss and endorse key features of the IDDA III programme/ roadmap; Share achievements made to date in relation to the implementation of IDDA III; Strengthen collective strategic partnerships in order to support long-lasting structural transformation; Deliberate on innovative financing mechanisms in support of the implementation of IDDA III; Reiterate the international community’s commitment to the implementation of IDDA III; and Highlight the role and importance of the African data revolution in supporting IDDA III.
