This seminar of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will review the state of worldwide activities on the use of alternative fuels in aviation, life-cycle analysis methodologies and sustainability criteria, and financing and assistance programmes. Participants will also discuss the legal and regulatory frameworks that support the development and deployment of these fuels in aviation. The role of biofuels in States’ Voluntary Action Plans for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, ICAO assistance projects, and the global market-based measure (GMBM) scheme will also be addressed. The Seminar will provide a forum for the exchange of information and will serve as a basis for the ICAO Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels that will be convened later in 2017. It is an opportunity for networking among States and industry stakeholders involved in activities related to sustainable alternative fuels for aviation.
