Human Rights and the 2030 Agenda: Empowering People and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality

This one-day meeting is mandated by the Human Rights Council. It will explore synergies between the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights.

Speakers at the meeting, which will be opened by Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Coly Seck, President of the Human Rights Council, will include Mary Robinson, Chair of the Elders and the President of the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice, Alaa Murabit, SDG Advocate and the Voice of Libyan Women founder, and Jeffrey Sachs, SDG Advocate and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University.

The theme of the meeting is the theme of the 2019 session of the HLPF, 'Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'. The meeting will seek to highlight good practices, achievements, challenges and lessons learned in the promotion and protection of human rights and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The event will be chaired by Ambassador Morten Jespersen of Denmark. The meeting will be webcast live.

A knowledge fair will also take place during the lunch break, promoting exchange of information on good practices, projects and methodologies successfully integrating human rights in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. #SDGshumanrights
