High-level Meeting on New Urban Agenda

The UN will assess implementation of the New Urban Agenda, adopted at the Habitat III conference in 2016, during a one-day high-level meeting.

In UNGA resolution 75/224, the UNGA President is asked to convene the meeting in New York in collaboration with UN-Habitat.

In October 2021, UNGA President Abdulla Shahid set the date for the high-level meeting as 28 April 2022. The meeting will be informed by the quadrennial report of the UN Secretary-General on progress in implementing the New Urban Agenda, which was released in March 2022.

The concept note and provisional programme were circulated on 23 March. According to the concept note, the high-level meeting aims to, among other objectives, “position the NUA as a road map for accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, notably Sustainable Development Goal 11 in conjunction with climate action, women’s empowerment, inter-generational rural-urban partnerships, urban resilience and with building peaceful, inclusive, and participatory societies for liveable cities.”
