The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is organizing Green Standards Week under the theme, 'Setting the Vision for Smart Sustainable Cities'. The Week will feature a high-level forum on the main theme and forums on related themes, including: 'Green Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for a Sustainable Resource Efficient Economy;' 'E-waste: The Inconvenient Truth;' and 'Using electromagnetic fields (EMF) to Achieve the Smartest Sustainable City'. The last day of the event will be dedicated to the regional meeting of 'ITU-T Study Group 5 Regional Group for Asia and the Pacific' (SG5 RG-AP). Overall, the Week will aim to promote: green ICTs as a catalyst to sustainable development; e-waste management; and how ICTs can help build smart, sustainable cities. The Week is expected to attract specialists from a variety of international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector, policy-makers, engineers, designers, city planners, government officials, regulators and standards experts. ITU is the UN's ICT agency and coordinates international cooperation on radio spectrum, satellite orbits, communication infrastructure development and standards.
