“Governance” of Natural Resources in LAC: Public Policy Challenges, Management of Resource Rents and Inclusive Development

Organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), this seminar will discuss, among other things: the management of macroeconomic policy in economies heavily-dependent on natural resources; experience in capturing revenue from sectors such as hydrocarbons and mining, compared with best practices and benchmarks among OECD countries; current tax regimes in LAC regarding mining, hydrocarbons and agricultural exports; income distribution mechanisms to help development at sub-national government levels; production diversification experiences in natural resource exporting countries in LAC; and sustainability, social disagreement and governance challenges in LAC natural resources management through 2020.
