The Global Science Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture is organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation of the Netherlands, the World Bank, and the University of Wageningen. It is sponsored by, inter alia, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) of the Consultative Group on Agricultural Research (CGIAR). It will bring together world experts on climate-smart agriculture to provide a synthesis of the current state of knowledge in order to deliver a set of findings based on multi-disciplinary science and best practices. The objectives of the conference are to: take stock of the current state of global knowledge of the science and best practices concerning climate-smart agriculture, in OECD and developing countries, and among private and public stakeholders; identify key priorities for further knowledge development; and summarize key findings for discussion at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011, and the follow up global conference on Food Security and Climate Change in Viet Nam in early 2012.
