Global Pact for the Environment: Expert Panel to Assess Gap Report

A panel of international experts will convene to assess the report of the UN Secretary-General titled, 'Gaps in international environmental law and environment-related instruments: towards a global pact for the environment,' which was published on 30 November 2018.

The Governments of France and Senegal and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Council of Environmental Law will assemble the panel, which – convening on International Human Rights Day – will highlight the right to live in a healthy environment.

The report has been issued following a mandate in UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution A/72/L.51) adopted in May 2018. The report will inform substantive discussions on the potential global pact, which will begin on 14 January 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya. The organizational session for this process is summarized here.
