The road map towards a global compact on refugees, issued by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), outlines a series of formal consultations on the draft programme of action to take place in the first half of 2018. The formal consultations are the last step in the development of the global compact on refugees before it is proposed by the High Commissioner in his 2018 annual report to the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
The formal consultations are held in private. Written contributions to the process may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org for posting online.
Following each consultation, UNHCR will share a revised draft of the global compact on refugees, reflecting the key outcomes and suggestions received, which will serve as the basis for the next formal consultations. The expected outcome at the end of the formal consultations is a non-binding document, reflecting a consensus among all UN Member States.
The first consultation took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13-14 February 2018, to consider the zero draft of the compact.
