Global Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) Virtual Conference 2020

The Global Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) Virtual Conference 2020 will focus on the exchange of experiences and lessons learned from all the different ABS right holders (indigenous peoples and local communities, and governments) and stakeholders (researchers, the research community and the private sector) from provider and user countries, and from developing and developed countries.

The Conference is being held in the context of the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Nagoya Protocol, and is organized by the UN Development (UNDP)-Global Environment Facility (GEF) Global ABS Project, in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and in collaboration with the Governments of Japan and Jordan, and other partners. It aims to bring together the ABS community to celebrate the progress made in the last 10 years as well as to discuss the vision of “the ABS we all need” for the next years, in preparation for the post-2020 Biodiversity Strategic Framework.

The Conference will be divided into 5 online sessions, as follows:

  • 29 October 2020: Happy Birthday Nagoya Protocol;
  • 4 November 2020: ABS for Users I: A Dialogue Between Governments and Researchers;
  • 11 November 2020: ABS for Users II: A Dialogue Between Governments and Private Sector;
  • 18 November 2020: ABS Dialogue Between Governments and Indigenous Peoples. The Lessons Learned; and
