Established by the fifth session of the Governing Body to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group to Enhance the Functioning of the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing (MLS) of the ITPGR, at its first meeting, will examine: factors leading to the current short-fall of income to the Benefit-sharing Fund; innovative approaches already identified; further possible innovative approaches; the concepts involved in revisiting Articles 6(7), 6(8) and 6(11) of the standard Material Transfer Agreement and their inter-relationship; and other measures that can enhance monetary benefit-sharing. The meeting will be preceded by a day of regional consultations, held on 13 May.
