The fifth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (WG2020) will take place in December in Montreal, Canada, back-to-back with the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15).

At the Group’s fourth meeting in July, negotiators agreed to convene a fifth meeting of the WG2020 to advance “work on the most contested targets as well as iron[] out the text on targets close to reaching agreement.” 

The negotiating process will culminate in the adoption of a post-2020 global biodiversity framework by the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming, China.
