Fifth African Rift Geothermal Conference (ARGeo – C5)

The 5th African Rift Geothermal Conference (ARGeo – C5) is being organized to promote the development, exploration, use and financing of geothermal energy projects. ARGeo – C5, themed 'Geothermal: Solution to Africa Energy Needs,' will serve as an information-sharing platform and will facilitate regional cooperation. The main conference, which will take place 29-31 October, will feature a range of sessions geared toward exploring: risk mitigation; how to attract private developers; fast-tracking projects; stimulating the growth of the industry through investment; and the development, construction and operation of geothermal plants. Participants also have the option of participating in short courses, such as 'Improving Success in Drilling' and 'Financing Geothermal Projects' on 27-28 October. After the conference, an optional field trip on 1-2 November is offered. The African Rift Geothermal Development Facility (ARGeo) Project is organizing the conference in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Government of Tanzania. The UNEP-ARGeo Programme is a project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) that encourages the development of geothermal energy sources in East Africa to realize their untapped potential and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It was officially launched in 2010 at ARGeo – C3.
