Expert Meeting on Readying Institutions and Policies for Integrated Approaches

In preparation for the 2017 session of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), this expert meeting on 'Readying institutions and policies for integrated approaches to implementation of the 2030 Agenda' will explore how governments are organized and equipped to develop and implement integrated plans and policies to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the meeting will focus on the group of SDGs to be reviewed at the HLPF in July 2017. These SDGs are: end poverty in all its forms everywhere (SDG 1); end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture (SDG 2); ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3); achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5); build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation (SDG 9); conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development (SDG 14); and strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development (SDG 17). Attention will be given to the interrelations among these goals and their targets, and between them and the other SDGs. The meeting will take place over the course of two and a half days and consist of a series of panels involving representatives of governments, international organizations, academia and other non-state actors. The report of the meeting will serve as a contribution to the thematic reviews to be conducted at the 2017 HLPF. It will also be reflected in DESA's flagship publications such as the World Public Sector Report, and inform the UN Committee of Experts on Public Administration. The HLPF was established following the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20) and has a central role in following-up and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs.
