Expert Group Meeting on SDG 15: Progress and Prospects

The UN Division for Sustainable Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and partners are organizing an Expert Group Meeting on SDG 15 (life on land) and its role in advancing sustainable development through implementation of the 2030 Agenda, ahead of the 2018 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

The objectives of the meeting are to: take stock of progress towards SDG 15; share knowledge on success stories, good practices and challenges; identify particular areas of concern; and suggest ways forward in terms of policies, partnerships and coordinated actions at all levels. These messages will help inform the HLPF, assist in planning its sessions, and serve to influence collaborations and programmes of work going forward from 2018, according to the organizers.

The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) concept note is available here, along with the latest draft programme.

SDG 15 is one of the Goals to be reviewed in-depth at the 2018 session. The others are: SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation); SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy); SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities); SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production); and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals) (which is reviewed every year). EGMs on the other Goals are listed on the HLPF preparations webpage.
