Expert Group Meeting on Science and Sustainable Development Goals

An Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Science and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will take place at UN Headquarters in New York, US, to discuss how science can best inform the SDGs process and to provide an opportunity for the scientific community to initiate a dialogue with policy makers engaged in intergovernmental deliberations on the SDGs. The EGM seeks, specifically, to support “informed policy-making by the OWG” as the group begins to discuss key questions surrounding the conceptualization of the SDGs. The Meeting will be organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in partnership with the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). It will leverage and build on the existing engagement with the scientific community through the Scientific and Technological Community major group. It is anticipated that a half-day briefing to OWG members and the broader UN membership will conclude the meeting.
