ESCAP Disaster Resilience Week

In line with its Regional Roadmap for Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will hold its first Disaster Resilience Week. The event will launch the Asia-Pacific Disaster Report 2017, and serve as a platform for dialogue and peer learning to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), including specific targets relating to resilience and DRR. The relevant SDGs include SDG 1 (no poverty), 2 (no hunger), 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 13 (climate action).

The Disaster Resilience Week will focus on: coherence between the 2030 Agenda and the Sendai Framework; regional cooperation on multi-hazard early warning systems; disaster information and knowledge management; applications of space technology and geographic information systems for DRR and SDG monitoring; and disaster risk financing.
