EMG Nexus Dialogue Series 2019: Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste

The UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Nexus Dialogue Series 2019 will convene a dialogue under the theme, ‘Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste’.

Using an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability along the supply chain, the event will examine the life cycle of chemicals from the production stages until the disposal of waste, and seek to identify gaps and opportunities to contribute to the achievement of SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), in particular target 12.4 on environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle.

Organized in partnership with UN Environment, the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Government of Switzerland, the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and others, the Dialogue will consist of technical discussions and a high-level segment (HLS), which will bring together governments, heads of UN agencies, non-governmental organization (NGO) leaders and private sector representatives. The key policy messages will be presented at a UNITAR workshop taking place from 6-7 February 2019.

This 2019 Dialogue is preceded by the Nexus Dialogue on ‘Environment, Peace and Security’.

Launched in April 2017, in Geneva, the Nexus Dialogue Series brings UN agencies and other stakeholders closer together in identifying further synergies and partnerships at the intersection of the different SDGs from an environmental perspective.
