The UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Nexus Dialogue Series 2019 will convene the first dialogue of the year under the theme, ‘Environment, Peace and Security’. The event will seek to contribute to a common understanding of ways in which the environment, peace and security nexus can contribute to achieving SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) and how SDG 16 can improve addressing environment, peace and security challenges. The outcome of the Dialogue will be captured in ten key messages to guide policy advice, future research, partnerships and advocacy, and may contribute to the review of SDG 16 at the seventh meeting of the High-Level Political Forum in July 2019.

This Dialogue is preceded by the 2018 Dialogue Series, which included: the Nexus Dialogue on ‘Law for Environmental Sustainability’; the Nexus Dialogue on ‘Greening with Jobs: A Just Transition to Sustainability’; and the Nexus Dialogue on ‘Biodiversity Mainstreaming in the Context of Human Security and Wellbeing.’

Launched in April 2017, in Geneva, the Nexus Dialogue Series brings UN agencies and other stakeholders closer together in identifying further synergies and partnerships at the intersection of the different SDGs from an environmental perspective.
