The inaugural Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Sustainable Energy Week will promote the exchange of ideas and cooperation to support the acceleration of the implementation of a regional energy market and to improve the policy and regulatory landscape for a sustainable regional energy sector among the 15 ECOWAS countries. It will also facilitate interactions and forge partnerships among policymakers, the private sector and financial institutions. More specifically, the Forum will, inter alia: assess the current status of the regional electricity market; present the regional perspective of national renewable energy and energy efficiency action plans; provide updates on the development of Sustainable Energy 4 All (SE4ALL) investments in each country; discuss the acceleration in implementing grid connected renewable energy plants and private sector involvement in rural electrification in West Africa; and discuss the Regional Bioenergy Policy and its role in achieving the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Goals. The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority and the West Africa Power Pool are organizing the event.
