The annual humanitarian affairs segment of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) aims to improve effectiveness of the humanitarian response. After consultations with the ECOSOC Bureau, the theme for 2017 should remain: ‘Restoring Humanity and Leaving No One Behind: Working together to reduce people’s humanitarian need, risk and vulnerability’. The segment will include: a general debate (action on ECOSOC resolution); high-level interactive panels; and side events. The themes to be discussed during the interactive panels are still under discussion. The UN Secretary-General's report on ‘Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the UN’ is expected to be issued prior in late April 2017.
