ECOSOC Coordination Segment 2022

The UN Economic and Social Council's (ECOSOC) 2022 Coordination Segment will take place in February 2022. It will address the 2022 annual theme of ECOSOC and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

The new Coordination Segment of ECOSOC was created by the UN General Assembly in June 2021 as an essential part of a range of measures to strengthen ECOSOC. It aims to help ECOSOC better deliver on its Charter role to coordinate the UN system and its subsidiary bodies in the economic, social, health, environmental and related areas. The Coordination Segment replaces the Integration Segment and the informal meeting of the Council with the Chairs of subsidiary bodies.

The 2022 Coordination Segment, which is the inaugural coordination segment, will be chaired by the ECOSOC Vice-President, the Permanent Representative of Thailand. It will give direction for the work of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and entities in the following months and improve coordination in support of the integrated implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It will also provide recommendations on the follow-up to the 2021 Ministerial Declaration of ECOSOC and the HLPF.
