‘Delivering the Promise of a Global Just Transition’ is one of a series of high-level events being co-hosted by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Presidency of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 27), the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions, the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the SDG Lab. The aim of the high-level events is to explore critical issues in enabling all countries to move from pledges to implementation.
The event will consider:
- how a just transition can contribute, not just to ambitious climate action, but also to social and economic benefits for all;
- the type of cooperation needed to make sure every nation and region can deliver a just transition according to its own needs and conditions;
- potential financing frameworks needed to support just transitions in developing countries including the scale and nature of instruments, key actors, and systemic global financial reforms; and
- the employment opportunities and costs of a shift to renewable energy in developing countries.
