CSW 61

The 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 61) will focus on the priority theme, ‘Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work’. CSW 61 is expected to address women’s economic empowerment in the context of SDG 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls). In addition, UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Peter Thomson has announced his intention to convene key actors to ensure sustained engagement on SDG 5, including during the margins of CSW 61. CSW will also address: as its review theme, ‘Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for women and girls’; and as an emerging issue/focus area, ‘The empowerment of indigenous women’; as well as progress and gaps in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and other issues related to gender equality and the empowerment of women, and the Commission’s multi-year work programme. CSW will result in recommendations, which are forwarded to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for follow-up.
