The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. At its annual sessions, the CSW systematically reviews progress in the implementation of areas of concern identified in the Beijing Platform for Action, and adopts recommendations to facilitate increased implementation. The priority theme for the 57th session of the CSW (CSW 57), which will convene in March 2013, will be the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.
