The objective of this meeting is to develop a continent-wide Geological and Minerals Information System (GMIS) to collate and store geodata provided by mining companies to their respective national geo-survey entities in a single repository. In addition to clarifying the organizational structure of the GMIS Steering Committee, the event will identify strategic partners and priority issues for the implementation of the strategy. The meeting takes place under the auspices of the African Mining Vision, which was adopted by African heads of state in 2009 to ensure the transparent, equitable and optimal exploitation of mineral resources in order to support broad-based sustainable growth and socio-economic development in Africa.
