Consultation Workshop: Responsible Land Governance for Land Degradation Neutrality

This workshop will discuss how responsible land governance can feature as a component of land degradation neutrality (LDN) – at all stages of implementation (from policy-planning to implementation on the ground). The outcome of these discussions is intended to guide a policy brief focused on concrete actions policy makers and LDN implementers can take when setting up and conducting LDN activities.

Discussions will be based around the following two hypotheses: land governance is often crucial to create the necessary incentives for implementing LDN and for ensuring an equitable distribution of LDN benefits, and sustainability of LDN investments; and conversely, LDN implementation on the ground also risks being problematic in contexts where poor and marginalized members of society lack recognition of their rights to make use of land resources.

The outcome of the workshop will inform the policy brief and upcoming discussions with the UN Convention on Combating Desertification (UNCCD) on an enabling environment for LDN.
