12-14 November 2013 Addis Ababa, Adis Abeba, Ethiopia
UNECA Committee on Women and Development

The Committee on Women and Development (CWD), one of the eight statutory subsidiary organs of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will meet to discuss Africa's common position on the post-2015 development agenda and its impact on Member States' policies, programmes and efforts to mainstream gender into development policy. The theme of the eighth session is 'Africa in the Post-2015 era: Towards an Inclusive and Gender Equitable Development'. The Committee on Women and Development (CWD) meets every two years to deliberate on issues related to women and gender, and submits its reports and recommendations to the Economic Commission for Africa's (UNECA) Council of Ministers. The meeting will enable the CWD to discuss Africa's common position on the post-2015 development agenda and how this will impact Member States' policies and programs and efforts to integrate gender into development. The theme also will enable the meeting to rethink the strategies of accelerating implementation of Dakar and Beijing commitments in view of the upcoming Beijing+20 Conference on women in 2015 within the context of the post-2015 development agenda. In addition, the theme provides a framework for CWD to guide the African Centre for Gender (ACG) to undertake its mandate.
