Cities Conference II: Towards Safe, Affordable and Sustainable Urban Mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean

The annual Cities Conference provides a strategic platform for dialogue which supports the implementation and monitoring of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), and the urban dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs, particularly SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), in Latin America and the Caribbean, while also contributing to fulfillment of the Paris Agreement on climate change and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), among others global agendas.

Its 2018 edition themed, ‘Towards Safe, Affordable and Sustainable Urban Mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean,’ will address the need to better integrate urban planning, management and financing with mobility and transport systems in Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve sustainable urban development. The conference aims to contribute to safe, affordable and sustainable urban mobility and transport by focusing on, among others: national urban mobility policies; sustainable urban mobility plans; equality and gender issues; health and active mobility; improving access to international and local financing; public-private partnerships (PPPs); smart urban mobility; and monitoring urban mobility.

The Cities Conference II is organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Assembly of Ministers and High Authorities on Housing and Urban Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (MINURVI), with the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and others.
