CGIAR Development Dialogues

The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) is holding its inaugural 'Development Dialogues' to discuss forestry, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, landscapes and food systems in the context of climate change and sustainable development. The event will explore integrated landscape approaches for agriculture, forestry and other land uses in support of efforts to develop sustainable food systems in the midst of climate change, population growth, increasing poverty and the feminization of agriculture. Panelists will include: Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Minister for Environment of Peru and President of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 20), and Kwesi Atta-Krah, Director of CGIAR's Research Program on Integrated Systems for the Humid Tropics. Panel discussions will aim to move beyond the “land sparing” versus “land sharing” debates by exploring the geographic, ecological, social and political contexts that influence land use policy. The Development Dialogues will take place during Climate Week NYC alongside the UN General Assembly and the UN Climate Summit. Participants will engage in debates on the following themes: prosperous, food-secure and resilient livelihoods; healthier, innovative, capable and inclusive communities; new partnerships for development impact; and climate change-resilient agro-ecosystems.
