CDKN Workshop: Climate Change and the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals

The Climate Development and Knowledge Network (CDKN) is hosting a workshop to explore the linkages between climate change and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), and to bring together climate change and sustainable development experts and practitioners from across Southeast Asia. This workshop is one in a series of events on this theme that CDKN will convene in developing countries in the coming months, the outcomes of which will feed into the UN Climate Summit, being convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 23 September 2014. Experts from government, civil society, academia and the private sector are expected to discuss how to include climate change in the SDGs. Participants will discuss, inter alia: advantages and disadvantages of a stand-alone goal on climate change and of mainstreaming climate change impacts into the SDGs; challenges to ensuring an outcome that is mutually beneficial for both climate change and development, and how to overcome them; and how developing countries can influence the two processes. A briefing paper will capture the key messages emerging from the discussions, which will help to clarify the SDG/climate change linkages, and enable developing country voices to be heard.
