Briefing on Consultations on Indigenous Peoples’ Participation in UN Processes

UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 70/486, 'Rights of Indigenous Peoples,' adopted on 1 December 2015, requests the Assembly President to conduct consultations with Member States, indigenous peoples' representatives and UN mechanisms on measures to enable the participation of indigenous peoples' representatives and institutions in UN processes on issues affecting them, and to prepare a compilation of the views presented during the consultations, including current good practices within the UN. At the informal briefing on 7 March, the four advisers appointed by the President to organize the consultations will present a roadmap outlining how they propose to conduct the consultations, and invite inputs from Member States and indigenous peoples' representatives.
