Bern III Conference on Cooperation Among the Biodiversity-related Conventions for the Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal GBF

The Bern III Conference on Cooperation Among the Biodiversity-related Conventions for the Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) will identify opportunities to foster and coordinate an inclusive and collaborative approach towards GBF implementation while respecting the mandates of biodiversity-related conventions and other relevant multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and UN organizations.

In decision 15/13, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) called for the continuation of the ‘Bern Process,’ inviting the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to “continue to strengthen cooperation and collaboration among biodiversity-related conventions, contributing to effective and efficient implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by facilitating a process for cooperation among Parties to the relevant biodiversity-related conventions”.

The Conference aims to identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration among MEAs in implementing the GBF at all appropriate levels. Participants will also share practical experiences of cooperation and collaboration in implementing MEAs that could be scaled up.

The Government of Switzerland is hosting the conference in collaboration with UNEP and the CBD Secretariat.
