The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2021 will be held under the theme “Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia and the Pacific.” The Forum aims to play a unique role as a catalyzer of solutions and peer learning on how to accelerate transformations for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda while recovering from COVID-19.
The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual and inclusive intergovernmental forum and a regional platform for supporting countries, in particular those with special needs, in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while serving as a regional preparatory meeting to the high-level political forum.
The 2021 Forum will provide a platform to:
- discuss how transformations can take place in the aftermath of COVID-19, supporting a sustainable and resilient recovery while accelerating implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- conduct in-depths review of SDGs 1 (no poverty), 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and well-being), 8 (decent work and economic growth), 10 (reduced inequalities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), 13 (climate action), 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) and 17 (partnerships for the goal);
- support the presentation of Voluntary National Reviews for the 2021 HLPF; and
- discuss opportunities to strengthen linkages between national, regional and global follow-up and review.
The Regional Forum will be held in a hybrid format that will provide for both in-person and virtual participation. Some sessions will be organized as hybrid sessions, enabling physical presence at the Forum, while other sessions will be organized entirely as online events.
The Annual Regional Collaborative Platform for the region will take place back to back on 22 March.
