Convened as one of 10 ‘Signature Events' of the 2016 International Year of Pulses (IYP 2016), this regional conference will discuss regional strategies for food security, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, rural and territorial development, family farming and agricultural innovations to improve yields through the efficient use of natural resources. A key objective of the conference will be to promote the production and consumption of beans, as one of the most important sources of protein in Latin America and the Caribbean. Countries participating in the Central American Cooperative Program for Crops and Animal Improvements (PCCMCA) are Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Puerto Rico.
