This conference is the culmination of two European Commission (EC) projects: Changing Hydro-meteorological Risks as Analyzed by a New Generation of European Scientists (CHANGES); and Increasing Resilience through Earth Observation (IncREO). It aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas related to effective risk management strategies. Participants will also discuss research results on the effects of changing hydro-meteorological risks and the development of innovative methodologies for quantitative hazard and risk forecasts. Sessions will take place on: ecosystem-based approaches to disaster management; forecasting future changes in hydro-meteorological triggers; using remote sensing techniques to generate asset maps; modeling changes in societal parameters to characterize exposure and vulnerability; modeling changes in natural risks and risk scenarios; adapting risk management to future changes; risk communication; geo-information and visualization tools for risk assessments; and transferability of multi-hazard risk assessment methods to developing countries.
