The retreat enables Ambassadors from Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), UN agency officials and other stakeholders to begin preparations in advance of the first meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Second UN Conference on LLDCs, which will take place from 12-13 June 2014. Participants will exchange informal views and work toward a common agenda among Member States on a new Programme of Action for LLDCs, including on the substantive elements for an expected outcome document. Sessions will include: development challenges of LLDCs; the need for a holistic approach; the post-2015 development agenda; core elements of a new Programme of Action, including infrastructure development and transit cooperation; structural transformation; science, technology and innovation; regional integration; international support measures for LLDCs; and monitoring, review and follow-up.
