Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2019

The fifth session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) will take place on the theme, 'Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'. The Forum is convened by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in collaboration with regional organizations and the UN System. The Forum seeks to advance implementation of both the SDGs and Africa's Agenda 2063.

The 2019 Forum will conduct in-depth reviews of the SDGs which will also be subject to review at the July 2019 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), and its outcomes will feed into the HLPF's deliberations. The SDGs are: 4 (quality education), 8 (decent work and economic growth), 10 (reduced inequalities), 13 (climate action), 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) and 17 (partnerships for the Goals), as well as the corresponding goals of Agenda 2063.

The Forum will also enable the Africa region to articulate inputs to the September 2019 session of the HLPF held at the leaders' level, addressing Africa’s specific challenges in the implementation of the SDGs, gaps and levers of change to accelerate implementation.
