The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) will hold a two-day conference with ministers, regional migration experts and civil society. The conference will aim to “validate” a regional report on migration, which will have been presented previously at an expert retreat with the African Union (AU) in mid-2017. The conference will also aim to help draft a common African position on migration, ahead of a special meeting of the AU expert committee dealing with migration in October/November 2017. The expert committee meeting will seek to adopt the common African position, which will then be presented at the AU Summit of Heads of State and Government in January 2018.
