Advancing Natural Capital Accounting in Government, Business and Finance: Theory, Practice and Enabling Conditions

This invitation-only event will bring together representatives from the public sector, international initiatives, knowledge centers, multilateral bodies, leading companies, financial institutions and academia to discuss steps that can be taken to create an enabling environment for the adoption of natural capital accounting (NCA) by governments, businesses and the financial sector. The purpose of the event is to engage experts and practitioners in the creation of a multi-stakeholder NCA platform. Specific topics include: the business case for NCA; how the uptake of NCA can be incentivized in various global and national contexts; uptake challenges, success stories and lessons learned from around the world; and how NCA policy options fit within the design of policy instruments for broader natural capital and environmental management. The meeting is being organized by Globe International, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Natural Capital Coalition, National Capital Declaration, The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB), UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and World Bank Group.
