11-16 May 2018 Bangkok (Krung Thep), Thailand
74th session of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The 74th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will address the theme, 'Inequality in the era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'.

ESCAP notes that the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs raised new opportunities to tackle the issue of inequality, including a stand-alone goal to reduce inequality within and among countries, as well as a pledge that no one would be left behind. Countries will discuss how addressing inequalities of opportunity in the region, such as access to health, education, food security, water and sanitation, can help achieve the SDGs. The session will have a strong focus on addressing the underlying and emerging drivers of rising inequalities in Asia and the Pacific, and will discuss policy lessons to help build more inclusive and equitable societies in the region.

Comprising two parts, the annual session will include the senior officials segment from 11-12 May, in preparation for the ministerial segment, which will be held from 14-16 May.
