23-24 November 2018 Sharm el-Sheikh, South Sinai, Egypt
6th Global Biodiversity Summit of Cities and Subnational Governments

Convening under the theme, ‘Mainstreaming Biodiversity for Urban and Regional Development,’ the Summit will provide a platform for national governments to engage with their local and subnational peers on their contribution to achieving the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and its Strategic Plan 2011-2020 for Biodiversity, as well as on their role in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

The Summit is expected to accelerate and further enable the mobilization of local and subnational governments to contribute to the achievement of the global Aichi Biodiversity Targets, giving particular attention to the challenges of urbanization in the African region.

The Summit is organized by the Cities Biodiversity Center of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, in cooperation with the CBD Secretariat and the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD), and convened by the South Sinai Governorate, Egypt, as an official parallel event to the 2018 UN Biodiversity Conference.
