The GloBallast Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and executed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), assists developing countries to reduce the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in ships' ballast water and implement the IMO Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention. The Research and Development Forum is to discuss an IMO study of the implementation of the ballast water performance standard, and approval and implementation of ballast water management systems.
