58th Session of the Commission for Social Development

The Commission for Social Development is the UN advisory body responsible for the social development pillar of global development. The 58th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD58) will take place from 10-19 February 2020, at UN Headquarters in New York.

CSocD58 will address the theme, 'Affordable housing and social protection systems for all to address homelessness'. In a Chair's summary from the high-level discussion on this theme, the Chair noted that “There is no universally agreed definition of homelessness. Thus, it is difficult to measure, and data is often not comparable across countries.” Nonetheless, it was recognized as a global problem that results from two categories of drivers: structural social and economic conditions, and personal or family dynamics. Speakers indicated that preventing homelessness requires sound housing and social policy.

During the 2020 session, the 75th anniversary of the Commission and 25th anniversary of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development will be celebrated.
