4th International Symposium: The Effects of Climate Change on the World’s Oceans

The 4th International Symposium, convening under the theme, ‘The Effects of Climate Change on the World’s Oceans,’ will bring together experts from around the world to better understand climate impacts on ocean ecosystems, and how to respond. The objective of the Symposium is to present current research results and to facilitate their uptake in other analyses, including the 6th Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The Symposium will seek to: highlight the latest information on how oceans are changing, what is at risk and how to respond; identify key knowledge gaps; promote collaborations; and stimulate the next generation of science and actions.

The Symposium is co-organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (IOC-UNESCO), which is in charge of coordinating international efforts to ensure progress in achieving SDG 14 (life below water), the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The Symposium meets every three to four years.
