The Commission will discuss the following items: implementation of the fundamental principles of official statistics; working methods of the statistical commission; programme review: broader measures of progress; national accounts; environmental-economic accounting; international trade and economic globalization statistics; information and communications technology (ICT) for development; international comparison programme; disability statistics; big data and modernization of statistical systems; publications of the UN Statistics Division; coordination of statistical activities in the UN system; world statistics day; and regional statistical development. On broader measures of progress, the Commission will discuss a report by the Friends of the Chair Group on broader measures of progress, including on measuring and monitoring goals from the post-2015 development framework and identifying elements for implementing a new monitoring framework and a proposal for the further involvement of official statisticians in the debate and processes to elaborate a post-2015 agenda. On regional statistical development, the Commission will consider a report prepared by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on the role of statistics in the formulation of the post-2015 agenda, including on anticipated data needs for achieving and monitoring progress towards development goals and the role of regional cooperation and approaches to formulation and implementation of the post-2015 agenda, with examples from the Asia-Pacific region. The report recommends the inclusion of statistics development as a goal in the post-2015 development agenda. The Commission will also consider several information items, including agriculture, demographic, energy, environment, gender, human settlement and migration statistics and development indicators.
