10-13 September 2023 Jordan
26th Session of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission and 3rd Session of the COFO Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems

The 26th Session of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission (NEFRC) will bring together government officials from forestry and other sectors, representatives of international, regional, and sub-regional organizations that address forest-related issues, and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector. Participants will discuss forest and rangeland resilience, forest and agrosilvopastoral system restoration, women’s participation in non-wood forest products, and pastoral value chains. The third session of the COFO Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems will also convene.

As one of six regional forestry commissions of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the Commission serves as a policy and technical forum for the countries of the Near East to address the most pressing forest issues in the region and provide advice to the FAO forestry programme and forest policy. The Commission meets every two years to review progress, make recommendations, and set new agendas.

This regional meeting is one of a series of meetings that will inform the 27th Session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO). Building on synergies with the NEFRC event, the COFO Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems’ Summer School will be held in Jordan from 12-15 September. The third Session of the COFO Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems will convene from 11-14 September, also in Jordan.
