23rd Session of the GCOS Steering Committee

The 23rd Session of the Global Climate Observing System's (GCOS) Steering Committee is expected to discuss, among other things strategy, review and plans, including the GCOS Implementation Plan. It will also feature a scientific and technical discussion with partners and expert panels on, inter alia: information on preparations for the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC; reports on past and future activities; and engagement with GCOS partners. The Committee will also discuss governance and budget. The meeting will be preceded by GCOS Science Day on Monday, 28 September 2015, which will promote and discuss long-term climate observations in the atmosphere, terrestrial and marine systems, as well as climate variables and integration into models. The GCOS Steering Committee Steering provides scientific and technical guidance to sponsoring and participating organizations and agencies for the planning, implementation and further development of GCOS, which is a joint undertaking of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Council for Science.
